![]() | As leading advocates for sustainable building practices here in the Northwest, the employees of Skanska are pleased to be the Presenting Sponsor of Sustainable Business Oregon, a well-respected and one-of-a-kind resource for Portland business and civic leaders. Through its publication, website and speakers’ series, SBO has proven to be instrumental in raising the awareness of the importance of preserving the environmental health of our state for generations to come. We also are proud to be a member of a community that leads the country in sustainable development. The Oregon Sustainability Center is a prime example of this leadership role. As the selected general contractor for this unprecedented project, we are a part of a unique collaboration of the region’s public, private and academic communities that have come together to create a structure that will ensure Oregon remains at the forefront of the new green economy. We’re coupling this with efforts to promote locally owned businesses and subcontractors to ensure a sustainable Oregon economy for all. Again, we congratulate the management and staff of the Portland Business Journal for creating an invaluable forum that informs, educates and supports sustainable living and building. ![]() | Throughout 120 years of serving our neighbors, Portland General Electric has placed a strong emphasis on sustainable business practices and good stewardship. With every decision we make on this journey, we strive to find the right balance between the economic impact on our customers, the social impact on our community and the environmental impact on our region. While this is not a new concept for us, it’s one that we strive to integrate into our daily operations and long term resource planning so that we can all enjoy a bright energy future in Oregon. We’re proud of our accomplishments and the way we’ve worked to incorporate sustainability into the way we do business. Our 820,000 Smart Meters on customer homes and businesses is a good example of a sustainable solution – it saves money for customers, eliminates 1.5 million pounds of CO2 emissions annually and soon will provide information to our customers so that they may use energy wisely. PGE also continues a leadership role in sustainable transportation – partnering with others to create an electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Most importantly, we are working to provide customers with sustainable solutions for better managing their energy usage – from paperless billing to energy efficiency enhancements to purchasing more renewable power, our customers are making a difference. In fact, thanks to our customers, PGE is No. 1 in the entire nation for number of renewable power customers. We are pleased to sponsor Sustainable Business Oregon because it promotes awareness and dialogue on the topic of sustainability, which is so important to PGE, our customers and the economic health of our state. ![]() | Buildings on the University of Oregon campus date back to 1876, when Deady Hall first opened. The Ford Alumni Center and Matthew Knight Arena opened earlier this year, models of sustainable building practices. But many of the facilities from the last 135 years do not live up to the sustainability standard of the UO. This is why the university joined with 32 other leading institutions to launch the Billion Dollar Green Challenge, an initiative to invest a total of $1 billion in self-managed revolving funds to finance energy efficiency upgrades on campuses across the country. The goal is to have a net-zero increase in energy use on campus, even with continued construction. This is achieved through stricter energy efficiencies for new building and retrofitting older facilities to consume less energy. I am proud the UO is part of this challenge and among the institutions looking to honor our buildings of the past, while using efficiencies of the future. Learn more about University of Oregon |
![]() | As a health care company, stewardship is an integral part of our heritage, and an ongoing commitment to Regence members and to our communities. Each day, we help people make informed choices about their health, and we work to preserve the finite resources entrusted to us, whether it’s health care, energy or the environment. We are also proud to support and partner with businesses and organizations that continue to make Oregon a national leader in sustainability, while advancing the overall health of our state. For any company with a culture of stewardship, sustainability is already part of its DNA. We view conserving the Earth’s resources on our members’ behalf as a natural part of our mission. And, we are proud to live and work in a region with a rich heritage of sustainable practices, where we continue to learn from the experiences and innovations of others who share our values and beliefs. Our congratulations to the Sustainable Business Oregon Innovation Award winners, whose efforts and commitment inspire us all. Learn more about Regence |
![]() | From the curbside composting bins of Portland to the eco-friendly wines of Sonoma, the power of sustainability can be felt throughout the communities we serve – and at Umpqua as well. It’s part of our promise to do better than anyone expects of us today, then do it even better tomorrow. It inspires products like our GreenStreet loans, which have made eco-improvements more affordable for hundreds of businesses and neighbors. It’s embraced by our people, who track how they’re using less energy and paper at work then help clean up neighborhoods in their spare time. And it’s strengthened by our partnerships with green advocates like Energy Trust of Oregon – and now, Sustainable Business Oregon. It’s a satisfying feeling, but it doesn’t mean we’re satisfied. Let’s support one another to find new, deeper ways to make our communities more sustainable and make it easier to do what’s right. Learn more about Umpqua Bank |
