Governor: Stimulus creates or saves 8,300 jobs
The federal government’s massive $787 billion stimulus saved or created 8,300 jobs in Oregon in the last three months of 2009, according to Gov. Ted Kulongoski.
Oregon is expected to receive about $3.9 billion of the federal money. As of Jan. 1 it had spent $1.8 billion, or roughly 46 percent of that amount.
The 8,300 jobs created or saved in the fourth quarter includes 5,000 jobs in education, more than 700 in public safety and 690 in transportation.
To date, Multnomah County projects have received $423,650,140 of the federal stimulus and spent $311,922,398. Washington County projects received $243,928,155 and spent $174,626,271. Clackamas County projects received $171,972,211 and spent $122,704,845.
