Water tech company HTI sends filters to Haiti
Hydration Technology Innovations of Albany is working with private donors to send drinking water filtration systems to earthquake victims in Haiti. The donation will provide thousands of single-use water filtration pouches, multi-use hand-held filtration systems as well as eight community supporting hydro-wells that can purify 5,600 liters (1,480 gallons) of water a day.
HTI uses forward osmosis water filtration technology in several clean water delivery systems, of which four different models will be taken to Haiti. The HTI systems going to Haiti include: HydroPacks, an individual pouch that can be dropped into any water source and produce a 12 ounce electrolyte-enhanced therapeutic drink in just a few hours; X-Packs, multi-use hand-held filtration systems; and HydroWell Village, a larger, community support water system that requires no power and can provide enough water for several families.
These systems were used following Hurricane Katrina and are currently being used in military operations around the world.
The first part of the filtration shipment was loaded a the company's facility in Albany on Monday and will travel to Haiti via Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina.
