Icebreaker HQ gets LEED gold

Icebreaker, the Wellington, New Zealand-based outdoor company that established its U.S. headquarters in Portland in 2007, today announced it had received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certification for its offices in Northwest Portland from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Icebreaker’s U.S. headquarters, located at 1330 NW 14th Avenue, opened in December and was designed by Portland’s GBD Architects Inc. All of the wood in the space is either reclaimed or FSC Certified, a designation from the Forest Stewardship Council indicating sustainable forest management practices. Low VOC paints and coatings were used and no urea-formaldehyde glue was used in the composite wood products. The

office was also designed to maximize natural daylight, and to be as open as possible to facilitate employee collaboration.

Earlier this month Icebreaker announced it would open an outlet store in Woodburn, Ore.
