Iberdrola sells power from Iowa wind farm

Iberdrola Renewables announced a power purchase agreement Wednesday with a new customer, We Energies of Milwaukee. We Energies will purchase 50 megawatts, enough to power about 12,000 homes, from Iberdrola's Barton Wind Power Project in operation near Kensett, Iowa.

The Barton Wind Farm has been up and running since June 2009.

Portland-based Iberdrola Renewables has operations in 17 states and installed capacity of nearly 3,600 megawatts spread over 39 wind farms. The company employs over 800 people in the United States.

We Energies, which announced a deal to buy wind turbines from Portland-based Vestas in March, is buying the wind power from Iberdrola in order to reach a Wisconsin renewable energy standard of 10 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2015. The utility is also constructing its own wind operations.
