Vulcan Power names new CEO

Vulcan Power Co., a Bend-based developer of geothermal energy projects, on Tuesday said Craig Mataczynski has been appointed CEO.

He replaces Robert Warburton, who has been serving as acting CEO.

Mataczynski has 28 years of utility and energy experience. For the past five years he’s served as CEO of Broomfield, Colo.-based Renewable Energy Systems Americas, one of North America’s largest developers of wind energy projects.

In a news release, Vulcan said Mataczynski is experienced in growing a business both organically and through mergers and acquisitions.

In February, Vulcan announced that it had raised $108 million from an affiliate of Boston-based private equity firm Denham Capital. In March, a new board of directors was named.

The deal brought Vulcan’s total outside investment to more than $200 million in three years, including a previous $58 million from Denham and $35 million from Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

The company also began drilling near Fernley, Nev., for a geothermal energy project capable of producing 60 megawatts of renewable electricity. The first phase of the project will be completed over the next two years.
