eTec takes on new name
ETec, the Arizona company that will be installing charging stations across Oregon this year, has changed its name to ECOtality North America.
The Phoenix-based firm , a subsidiary of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based ECOtality Inc., had gone by the name Electric Transportation Engineering Corp.
“As ECOtality expands its role as the international leader in electric vehicle charging solutions, we believe the new name is the right way to publicly underscore the power of our combined forces and our commitment to the industry,” ECOtality CEO Jonathan Read said in a news release.
ECOtality secured a $99.8 million stimulus grant from the U.S. Department of Energy in October to develop and install a network of 12,000 charging stations for electric vehicles across five states: Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona and Tennessee.
The project, valued at nearly $200 million and expected to create 5,500 new jobs by 2017, is aimed at evaluating the use of charging stations in diverse geographies.
The project is a partnership with Nissan North America, which is expected to deploy 4,700 of its all-electric Leaf vehicles by the end of 2010.
