Kettle Brand restores its backyard wetland

Mill Creek wetlands

Kettle Brand, maker of popular potato chips, celebrated American Wetlands Month by announcing the restoration of a wetland wildlife habitat adjacent to its factory in Salem.

The effort on 35,000 square feet of the company's property along Mill Creek involved getting rid of aggressive Himalayan blackberries and planting 12 species native vegetation in the pace of non-native plants. The project was supported by a grant from the Marion Soil and Water Conservation District.

The area is part of an existing wetlands trail system and open to the public.

Diamond Foods announced in March it would acquire Kettle for $651 million.
