Vestas receives 49 MW order from Canada
Vestas said Tuesday that International Power Canada Inc. ordered 27 wind turbines for the Pointe Aux Roches project in southwestern Ontario, Canada.
The V90-1.8 MW turbines will be delivered in late 2010 and the 49 MW project will likely come online in the first half of 2011. The order includes a five-year service and maintenance agreement.
The Pointe Aux Roches project is being developed under Ontario’s feed-in tariff (FIT) program, which offers stable prices under long-term contracts from renewable-energy sources such as wind. The Green Energy and Green Economy Act that became law in Ontario last year paved the way for the FIT program, implemented by the Ontario Power Authority.
International Power Canada and Vestas first worked together in 2006 on a project built using Ontario’s Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program, which now consists of 24 turbines. International Power Canada is also nearing completion on the Harrow project consisting of 24 turbines near Lake Erie scheduled for commissioning this month.
Vestas announced last month a loss of $108 million in the first quarter of 2010.
