The Cadmus Group Inc., an environmental and energy consulting firm that does business in the federal and utility sectors, announced Tuesday that the company is now owned by its employees.
Watertown, Mass.-based Cadmus acquired Quantec LLC in 2008 and employs 135 people in its Portland-based Energy Services Group, the company's largest division. Cadmus had about $60 million in revenue last year and has a staff of 300 people nationwide.
Cadmus set up an employee stock ownership plan to acquire the percent of the company stock held by founders Ralph T. Jones and Gene E. Fax. The purchase completed a transition of the company to employee ownership that began in 2003.
"The completion of this transition is a defining moment for the firm and for our rapidly growing staff of employee-owners," said Ian Kline, president and CEO, in a press release. "It is also a significant milestone in our growth strategy, which has led Cadmus to double in size over the past two years."
Fax will remain chairman of the Cadmus board of directors and will lead the company's quality assurance and in-house training programs. Jones, who with Fax founded Cadmus in 1983, will remain a full-time employee and a member of the board of directors.
