Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality has fined the shuttered Lehman Hot Springs resort and its owners $532,275 for violating environmental laws.
Most of the fines relate to improper sewage storage and discharge.
The fines name Lehman Development Corp., Lehman Hot Springs LLC and John Patrick Lucas, president of Lehman Development Corp., which owns the resort.
The resort is east of Ukiah in the Umatilla National Forest in eastern Oregon.
The fines resulted after years of state efforts to bring the resort into compliance with state law.
“This penalty reflects the egregious violations that have occurred at this site for many years, despite long-term state and local efforts to work with the resort operator to correct problems that affect public health and the environment,” said DEQ Director Dick Pedersen. “Additionally, this penalty should act as a reminder that complying with environmental laws is important and failure to do so has its consequences.”
The resort has until July 15 to appeal the fines.
