Portland Fashion Week to fuse fashion with energy

SolarWorld's chic black module

Portland Fashion Week, which has cultivated its reputation as a "green" fashion event since 2007, is taking those efforts a step further this year by sending models strutting down a photovoltaic runway courtesy of SolarWorld.

Starting on Oct. 6, Portland Fashion Week will unveil a catwalk made out of SolarWorld's new black monocrystalline photovoltaic panels manufactured in Hillsboro.

Is solar the new black?

"Sustainable fashion is a lifestyle choice, as is renewable energy," said Prasenjit Tito Chowdhury in a news release.

Chowdhury is the executive producer of Portland Fashion Week, which has been in existence since 2003.

As for SolarWorld, featuring its panels at the local fashion show is just another way to celebrate its expansion at its Hillsboro U.S. headquarters where the company is adding capacity in crystal growing, wafer cutting, cell conversion and module assembly.
