Brammo Inc. on Thursday said it will begin in production on a new electric sportbike capable of sustaining 100 mph.
The Ashland-based electric motorcycle manufacturer demonstrated a pre-production prototype of the "Empulse."
The Empulse line will feature three different production models featuring different battery capacities, all of which will be freeway capable and reach top speeds above 100 mph.
- • The Empulse 6.0 will be capable of 60 miles per charge and comes with a suggested retail price of $9,995.
- • The Empulse 8.0 has an 80 mile range with a price of $11,995.
- • The Empulse 10.0 has a 100 mile range and a suggested price of $13,995.
In each case, the range can be extended by traveling at slower speeds. All three models are eligible for state and federal tax credits which can bring the price of the Empulse 10.0 model down to about $7,000.
Brammo will begin delivering the Empulse in the middle of 2011. It will fill orders on a first-come, first-served basis.
The company already produces the Brammo Enertia, which is capable of ranges between 60 and 90 miles and speeds in excess of 60 mph. The plug-in electric Enertia, which retails for $7,995, is available at select Best Buy retail stores.
