Greenway Recycling expands services

Portland company Greenway Recycling announced Monday a new partnership to recycle old ceiling tiles at their facilities on N.W. Saint Helens Road.

The company, founded in 2003, will be collecting mineral fiber ceiling tiles as a part of the Armstrong World Industries recycling program. Armstrong is the nations largest manufacturer of acoustical ceiling tiles. Since the program started in 1999, Armstrong has recycled over 80,000,000 square feet of ceiling tiles, or enough to fill 11,000 dumpsters.

Greenway will collect ceiling tiles that are removed from existing buildings during renovations and demolitions. The collected tiles will be bundled together and shipped to an Armstrong manufacturing facility in Saint Helens, where they will be broken down and used to make new ceiling tiles.

"Greenway has always committed itself to seeking out the most forward-thinking manufacturers who are willing to use recycled materials in their products," said Terrell Garrett, the company’s owner, in a press release. "As a new partner in the Armstrong Ceiling Recycling Program, we will be able to further our efforts to reduce the load on landfills and to conserve resources for future use."

As part of its operation, Greenway sorts and processes a wide range of non-hazardous waste materials generated during typical construction and demolition activities.
