Oregon gets $3M for biomass projects

Gov. Ted Kulongsoki announed Thursday that Oregon landed $3 million in federal stimulus funds for three biomass projects.
The projects:
- The Lakeview Cogeneration LLC project in Lake County, which intends to provide electricity and heat to the Collins Co. Fremont Sawmill in addition to generating power for the grid, received $1.7 million.
- Farm Power Tillamook, a project in Tillamook County that uses waste from area dairy farms to generate electricity using an anaerobic digester, received $1 million.
- Integrated Biomass Energy in Wallowa County at the Wallowa County Wood Products Campus, which will also generate both heat and power using forest debris, received $275,000.
"These projects and the federal support present an opportunity to expand the state’s biomass energy market that will increase Oregon’s renewable energy production and help local economies by creating job opportunities," said Gov. Kulongoski in a news release.
The money, delivered through the U.S. Department of Energy's State Energy Program, is being administered by the Oregon Department of Energy. Recipients must complete their projects by February 2012.
