Hopworks expands its green beer reach

Hopworks Urban Brewery — which bills itself as Portland's first eco-brewpub — is expanding its distribution of sustainably-produced beer to British Columbia and Seattle.

The company's 20-barrel brewery in Southeast Portland produced 4,500 barrels of beer in 2009 and provides its restaurant with 10 different beers on tap and two varieties of cask ales on an ongoing business.

The company was founded by Christian Ettinger, formerly the brewer behind Laurelwood Public House & Brewery. Hopworks is focused on environmentally responsible, organic and carbon-neutral beer.

Another Portland brewer of organic beer, Roots Organic Brewing, closed abruptly in July.
