PGE: Biglow Canyon complete

Biglow Canyon Wind Farm

Biglow Canyon

Portland General Electric announced Tuesday that it wrapped up work on its largest renewable energy project, the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm, with all 217 turbines activated and generating power.

The full commissioning of the wind farm beat PGE's own predictions that it would complete the project by the third quarter of this year.

The $1 billion project, developed by Orion Energy LLC, is located on 25,000 acres near Wasco in Sherman County, Ore., and was constructed in three phases. It is PGE's first fully owned wind farm.

Biglow Canyon has a total installed capacity of 450 megawatts. Because wind power is variable, PGE expects the plant to produce an average of around 150 MW – enough to power the homes of about 125,000 average PGE residential customers.
