United Streetcar, Gerding lauded for sustainability

United Streetcar and Gerding Edlen Development have been recognized for positive labor-management relations and sustainable practices by the worker rights advocacy group American Rights at Work. The companies are two of eight nationally to be recognized.

United Streetcar was lauded for the relationship between management and its Ironworkers and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers employees and for its preference for U.S. manufactured goods. The Clackamas firm buys 70 percent of its source materials from U.S. companies, according to the report.

Portland-based commercial developer Gerding Edlen was praised for its commitment to LEED-certified green construction. The company has built more LEED buildings than any other developer in the country, according to American Rights. Gerding's work to create green building training programs for trades unions was also singled out.

American Rights at Work recognized the companies in its sixth annual "Labor Day List: Partnerships that Work" report.
