ECOtality Inc., the company behind the federally funded EV project, announced Wednesday a partnership with BP Products North America Inc. to install publicly available car chargers at 45 BP and ARCO gas stations in target markets by March, 2011.

Owners of electric vehicles will be able to use ECOtality's speedy Blink DC Fast Chargers, which boast a full charge in less than 30 minutes.

The markets targeted for the gas-station chargers include Portland, Eugene, Corvallis and Salem in Oregon; Phoenix and Tuscon in Arizona; San Diego and Los Angeles in California; Seattle in Washington and three cities in Tennessee.

"When people think of refueling their cars, they think of gas stations and we're excited to work with BP to demonstrate a new way of fueling cars to the American driver," said Jonathan Read, CEO of ECOtality in a press release.

ECOtality rolled out its plans for an Oregon EV charging infrastructure last month.
