Portland releases Solarize Guidebook

The city of Portland's Bureau of Planning and Sustainability released a guidebook this week for communities interested in replicating the popular Solarize Portland program which groups together homeowners in neighborhoods to buy and install solar panels as a bloc, reducing individual cost.

The guidebook, available for download via the bureau's website, was developed in partnership with the Nationa Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Portland launched its first solar program in 2006 and the Solarize program has spread to Salem and Pendleton.

The guidebook features the basics of the Solarize campaigns run in Portland and offers lessons and step-by-step plans for anyone looking to replicate the collective purchasing model.
