Portland-based MotoCzysz won the TT Zero in 2010

Segway Inc. will be the title sponsor for the MotoCyzsz 2011 race season, according to news released over the weekend.

New Hampshire-based Segway, famous for its individual personal transporter systems released with much fanfare about a decade ago, will team with Portland-based MotoCzysz on mechanical, electrical and software technology with an eye toward further developing electric vehicle technology for both companies.

MotoCzysz has promised its 2011 E1pc will double horsepower while reducing the motorcycle's overall size. The 2010 E1pc made a splash last year when it won the TT Zero race in the Isle of Man.

Wayne Mitchell, CEO of Segway, said in a news release that MotoCzysz was the company's first choice as a partner to enter the world of electric motorcycle racing.

“We’re thrilled to have Segway as a sponsor for the 2011 race season. Segway is a recognized innovator, making them a perfect partner for MotoCzysz. As the CEO of Segway is an ex British motorcycle champion, and current world motorcycle land speed record holder, Wayne and I are kindred spirits," said MotoCzysz CEO Michael Czysz in a news release.

Electric motorcycle racing will come to the Portland International Raceway for the first time in July.
