Solar canopy EV charger installed in Portland

EV4Oregon's solar canopy electric vehicle charger was installed this week in Portland.

After a splashy debut at the Portland International Auto Show in January, startup EV4Oregon celebrated the installment of its solar-powered electric vehicle charging station in Northeast Portland Wednesday.

Following hard on the heels of public charging station announcements this month from AeroVironment and ECOtality, EV4Oregon stands apart with a grid-tied solar canopy looming over two publicly available charging stations that will be available for community use.

The chargers installed Wednesday are Blink chargers from ECOtality. They will be powered by SolarWorld-made solar panels. Lease It Inc. owns the set-up which EV4Oregon calls an Energy Transfer Merchant.

EV4Oregon signed on North Coast Electric as distributor for the charging stations.

The installation at 3620 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. was done in partnership with the Portland Development Commission as part of the city's EV strategy.
