A wind farm in Michigan is the 11th in North America to choose Vestas turbines this year.

Vestas received an order for 56 turbines that will power Consumers Energy's Lake Winds Energy Park in Mason County, Mich.

The turbines, Vestas model V100-1.8 MW are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2012 and they should be turning by the end of the year.

It's the second Michigan wind farm to use Vestas products after Harvest Wind, which was built in 2007.

Lake Winds, which will generate enough electricity to power 30,000 Michigan homes, is the 11th North American wind-energy project to buy from Vestas so far this year, slated to produce a total of 1,417 megawatts. Just this month, Vestas announced the sale of turbines to wind farms in Vermont and Texas.

Vestas-American Wind Technology Inc., the company's North American operation, is based in Portland.
