The American Wind Energy Association is featuring Columbia Gorge Community College student Tyrell Quantrell as a poster boy — or in this case online video star — to promote green jobs created by wind energy.
Part of AWEA's WindTV series, the video (see below) shows an interview about Quantrell, his training and the life of a turbine technician.
Quantrell received an associate of applied science degree at Columbia Gorge in a training program designed by and for the wind energy industry. In January, the college was one of three institutions to receive a "seal of approval" from AWEA.
The association reports that wind energy accounts for nearly 3,000 jobs in Oregon.
Quantrell is now employed by Granite Services working on GE wind turbines.
"It's nice to have a good-paying job close to home," Quantrell said.
