Gallery: Baldock Solar Highway project close to completion
By Cathy Cheney
Under the Oregon Solar Highway Program, the Oregon Department of Transportation provides land for the construction of a large solar array. It's an all-Oregon project with more than nine companies and organizations involved.
The Baldock Solar Highway project, launched in August and billed as the nation's largest, is taking shape near Wilsonville along Interstate 5.
The project, a 1.75 megawatt array, is a joint effort between the Oregon Department of Transportation and Portland General Electric.
The array should be switched on and generating power by mid-January. But the official commissioning ceremony will likely wait for better weather.
Cathy Cheney, Business Journal staff photographer, visited the project last week and found that Oregon weather presents its own set of challenges for solar installation.
