A new public station for bike repairs in Ashland is designed to encourage bike commuting.
The City of Ashland debuted a public bike repair and tire pump station at its downtown plaza this month.
The Ashland Daily Tidings reports that the city stocked the station with common bike tools and added a bicycle tire pump for public use.
The equipment that stocks the repair station —a $1,035 investment — was made by Minneapolis, Minn.-based Bike Fixtation LLC and the city will maintain the station which is near the Rogue Valley Transportation District bus shelter on the plaza.
A nearby toy store, Bug a Boo, has agreed to stock bicycle inner tubes required to fix flat tires.
"It's another tool, if you will, for bicyclists to keep on riding," Ashland Public Works Director Mike Faught told the Ashland paper.
