The Ashland Planning Commission voted this week to give the green light to Brammo Inc. to build two headquarters buildings and a motorcycle track in the Southern Oregon town.

The expansion would prompt the electric motorcycle company to add 200 employees to its staff.

Adrian Stewart, Brammo spokesman, said the company had not yet lined up financing for the building project.

"But we'll get there," Stewart said.

The Ashland Daily Tidings reported that Brammo intends to put up two buildings at 777 Jefferson Ave. that will house research, design, warehousing, administrative offices and the manufacturing of prototypes. The new buildings would accommodate an expansion of Brammo's staff in Ashland from about 40 employees now to as many as 250.

The planned motorcycle track would serve as a prototype for a series of dirt motorcycle parks that Brammo intends to build in the U.S. for electric motorcycles. Last year, it acquired a similar chain of parks in Europe and renamed it BrammoParx.

"It's very exciting to see our growth here in Ashland, and it will be great having our initial production close in hand," Craig Bramscher, company founder and CEO, told the Daily Tidings.

Brammo was on a tear in 2011, winning a prestigious electric motorcycle racing series over the summer and in October closing a $28 million investment from Polaris Industries and others. In June, Brammo fired up its European manufacturing line, set up in partnership with Flextronics, in Hungary.
