Tuscarora Yarns will use Naturally Advanced's flax fiber to develop yarns for multiple industries.

Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. announced Monday it will partner with a North Carolina yarn company to adapt flax fiber for use in the apparel and home furnishing markets.

Tuscarora Yarns, which has been spinning yarn for manufacturers since 1899, will use Naturally Advanced's Crailar Flax fiber under a non-exclusive, non-transferable license.

"Tuscarora is one of the most innovative yarn spinners in the world, and has the ability to prepare us for entry into several unexplored categories such as couture fashion, sports performance, extreme weather gear, and certain sectors of home furnishings," said Ken Barker, the Portland-based CEO of Naturally Advanced, in a press release.

Naturally Advanced uses natural fibers such as flax and hemp to create eco-friendly cloth.

The company in December announced a partnership with Target Corp. and plans to source flax from Willamette Valley growers.

Other Naturally Advanced partners include Georgia-Pacific, Levi Strauss and Carhart.
