Organically Grown Company announced this week it signed a lease on a 119,000 square-foot industrial space in Gresham that will triple the organic produce distributor's storage capacity for the Portland area.
Group Mackenzie will work on the overhaul of the facility, aiming for LEED Gold certification.
Organically Grown will also partner with Energy Trust of Oregon to implement energy efficiency features for the warehouse, including an ammonia refrigeration system, which uses less power than other refrigerants without contributing to ozone depletion. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency identified ammonia as a top priority in their “GreenChill” partnership program.
The company plans to move in by October and will consolidate its current Portland warehouse in the new Gresham location on Sandy Boulevard. Organically Grown also has distribution facilities in Eugene and Kent, Wash.
"The new facility will enable (Organically Grown) to enhance the shelf life of our full portfolio of products," said Mike Hansen, the company's director of operations, in a press release.
Organically Grown, which was recognized in November by Sustainable Business Oregon for its leadership in sustainable practices, serves over 200 food stores and restaurants located throughout western Oregon and Washington, and retail and wholesale accounts in other western states and Canada. More than 90 percent of its product line is received directly from 400+ growers, with over 30 percent of products from Northwest farms.
