DC-Energy lands affordable housing solar project in San Francisco

Fell Street Apartments in San Francisco will use solar panels to generate electricity and heat water.
DC-Energy, the joint venture between NW Photon Energy and S.D. Deacon Corp. announced Monday that the company landed its first contract: the design and installation of a solar energy and solar water heating system at an affordable housing complex in San Francisco.
The 92-kilowatt photovoltaic electrical system is expected to provide 100 percent of the electricity for the Fell Street Apartments' common area. The solar thermal water heating system will provide about 40 percent of the energy required annually to heat residents' hot water — a benefit that will be provided to tenants at no cost.
DC-Energy was launched last year to go after large solar installation contracts. Kirk Cameron, co-owner of DC-Energy and CEO of NW Photon Energy said the joint venture has several other contracts in the queue.
"The cool thin here is were almost able to put Fell Street into net zero, by really populating the roof," Cameron said.
The Fell Street solar project is expected to be up and running in July.
