The International Living Future Institute announced this week in Portland a new accreditation program for green building professionals.
The International Living Future Institute announced Thursday it will offer a professional designation for building professionals that would focus on curriculum associated with the Living Building Challenge and other institute programs.
The Living Future Accreditation is designed to take a holistic approach to sustainability and community development.
The institute announced the new program at its annual Living Future conference, being held this year in Portland.
The institute will offer different approaches to accreditation, but will require membership and completion of an institute-specific reading list.
The Living Building Challenge includes a set of criteria for green buildings designed to go beyond LEED certification to take into consideration issues including local sourcing of building materials and community engagement. The June Key Delta Community Center is on track to be the city's first living building.
