Portland-based YouTube show links food to farmers

Portland-based Food Farmer Earth is one of 100 new channels launched under the YouTube original programming initiative.
A Portland production company was selected to provide content for one of 100 new channels launched by YouTube this spring.
The series and channel, Food Farmer Earth, showcases Oregon's ample encyclopedia of local and natural food stories, including food preparation examples and documentary style footage shot on farms.
Part of YouTube's original programming initiative, Food Farmer Earth was selected from some 1,000 productions under consideration. The show is produced by Rebecca and Fred Gerendasy, who have been making online videos for the series Cooking Up a Story since 2006.
"All in all, a lot of this is based around sustainable agriculture," said Rebecca Gerendasy. "We're trying to get people back to whole, healthy foods, trying to do better for the planet."
Some of the featured Oregon-based food and culinary experts include:
- Lisa Schroeder, Mother's Bistro & Bar, Portland.
- Katherine Deumling, Cook with What you Have, Portland.
- David Padberg, Park Kitchen, Portland.
- Clare Carver, Big Table Farm, Gaston.
- Rudy Marchesi, Montinore Vineyard, Forest Grove.
- Mike Omeg, Omeg Orchards, The Dalles.
Toyota is sponsoring the Food Farmer Earth channel. Potter Productions is close to wrapping the first 12 weeks of the series. The company received an undisclosed advance from YouTube to help cover production costs.
