Vestas will announce first-half results this week and is expected to disclose layoff plans.
Vestas Wind Systems A/S is expected to give details this week about plans to layoff as many as 1,600 U.S. workers, most of them in Colorado, as a standoff in Congress has stalled the passage of a key tax incentive for the industry.
As Bloomberg reported Tuesday, Vestas CEO Ditlev Engel said in January that U.S. jobs would be scrapped “for sure” unless Congress extends the Production Tax Credit, which expires at the end of 2012.
The Aarhus, Denmark-based company reports earnings for the first half of 2012 on Wednesday and may provide more clarity on layoff plans then.
The company made a round of layoffs of as many as 100 employees at a tower plant in Pueblo last week.
Vestas keeps its North American headquarters in Portland where it employs about 400 people at refurbished office space opened earlier this year.
