Zhen Chen, formerly of ReVolt Technology LLC, joins Powin Energy as its chief operating officer.

Powin Energy snapped up an executive from the defunct ReVolt Technology LLC this week, hiring Zhen Chen as its chief operating officer. The company is also picking up an executive from troubled wind turbine company Vestas.

Chen is the former chief engineer for ReVolt, a cleantech company that received millions in federal, state and local incentives and announced last month it would dissolve under bankruptcy protection.

Powin Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Powin Corp. (OTCQB: PWON), will put Chen in charge of product development, testing, system validation, manufacturing and supply chain management.

"Zhen Chen is highly respected and accomplished in renewable energy technology and we are tremendously excited that he is joining our Powin Energy team," said Jeanne Liu, president of Powin Corp., in a press release.

At ReVolt, Chen developed the company's zinc-air battery technology. Prior to ReVolt he was a senior engineer for Bend-based fuel cell company IdaTech LLC and a staff scientist with Conoco Inc.

Tualatin-based Powin Energy is developing a range of energy storage products and is partnering with Oregon Institute of Technology on battery testing.

In addition to hiring Chen, Powing appointed Terry Davis, a former account manager with Vestas American Wind Technology, as vice president of sales and marketing.
