It's no secret that Oregon is a pioneer in advancing the green building trend currently revolutionizing the built environment. But just how much of a pioneer?
For the answer to that you need only look back to 2004.
Today's best-known green building certifier — the U.S. Green Building Council— was just finding traction with its certification system: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, better known as LEED. That's when the rating system found its first high-profile retail space — in Portland's downtown outpost of the popular outdoor store REI Inc.

Fast forward eight years and the green building council project database now boasts over 12,000 worldwide projects.
At Sustainable Business Oregon we've pulled together all of the LEED-certified projects in Oregon into an interactive map. The resource is updated each month with fresh data supplied by the U.S. Green Building Council.
We also pulled together the top Platinum-level LEED projects as part of this Friday's special section in the Portland Business Journal.
The special section coincides with our annual Innovation in Sustainability Awards taking place this Friday. Tickets are still available for the luncheon.
