Arbor South Architecture and its sister company Arbor South Construction want to do more green building projects in Eugene. But rather than waiting for clients to step up, Bill Randall decided to take on the risk himself. Twice.
"In Eugene there's a lot of talk about green building and less of a willingness to actually do it," said Randall, who is lead architect and principal for Arbor South Architecture. "We're trying to push that envelope here."

He started with The Sage, a single family home which in 2009 set the record for being the highest-scoring LEED Platinum house west of the Rocky Mountains. It was also the first LEED Platinum home in Eugene.
Now Arbor South is renting out 11 green townhomes the company just completed on River Road that boast a plethora of sustainable features.
The Arbor South Greenway Townhouses are certified Earth Advantage Platinum and will go for a LEED Gold rating. The Earth Advantage program is run by the Portland-based Earth Advantage Institute while LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is run by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Randall said that he went after both certifications because both have a high level of recognition among consumers in Oregon.
"A lot of the LEED certifications take a lot more effort to get, more money and fees," Randall said. "Earth Advantage is a little more user friendly."
