Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, a Denver-based natural grocery retailer, will open its first Oregon location this month in Medford.
Another all-natural grocery chain is moving into Oregon.
Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage (NASDAQ: NGVC), a Denver-based grocery retailer offering only natural and organic products, on Thursday said it will open its first Oregon location later this month in Medford.
The company was founded in 1955 and evolved into a national chain with more than 1,800 employees in 13 Western and Midwestern states, now including Oregon. It went public in July, though the company is still managed by the family of founders Margaret & Phillip Isely.
Natural Grocers says it refuses to sell foods with artificial ingredients — including artificial colors, sweeteners, flavors, preservatives, hydrogenated oils and produce grown with synthetic pesticides — and strives to stock locally made products when possible.
Like the other stores in the chain, the new Medford location at 1990 North Pacific Highway will offer free nutritional health coaching.
The facility was built with eco-friendly features, including energy-efficient motion light sensors, 100 percent post-consumer content tiles, high-efficiency heat-exchange systems, and commercial-grade LED lights.
The store's checkout section is devoid of disposable shopping bags. If shoppers forget to bring a bag, Natural Grocers provides free recycled boxes or reusable totes.
The store will also offer a community room where customers can have a free cup of coffee or tea and use the free Wi-Fi, and a demonstration kitchen for cooking presentations.
Natural Grocers is hosting an opening celebration stretching from March 26 through March 30.
