A West Coast engineering firm that’s made a splash in Portland is expanding its services up Interstate 5.

PAE, which leased the top two floors of a downtown Portland building in January, will open its newest office at Seattle’s Bullitt Center. The strategy helps brand PAE’s commitment www.pae-engineers.com to sustainability: The Bullitt Center, for which the firm provided lead design and construction expertise, is considered the country’s largest functioning living building.

Which means the structure yields net-zero energy and water use traits and is 75 percent more efficient than a typical Seattle office building, the firm said.

“PAE has a long standing presence in Washington and I am very excited that we have the opportunity to expand that presence with a permanent residence in a building we are very passionate about,” said Steve Reidy, managing principal for PAE’s Seattle office, in a statement. “We are all looking forward to further expanding our footprint and providing even greater service to our Puget Sound clients.”

PAE has already worked on several Seattle-area projects, including the University of Washington’s West Campus Residence Hall, a 580,400 square-foot endeavor that earned “gold” certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Environment and Energy Design group. Gold-certified projects use energy and water systems that are 40 percent more efficient than local codes require.

PAE also worked on the LEED-platinum The Lott Administrative Education Center & Laboratory project in Olympia, which received the National Sustainable Buildings Industry Council’s Beyond Green Grand Award. from the, among several other awards.
