40 Under 40: Meet Mercy Corps' Jennifer Schmidt

Cathy Cheney | Portland Business Journal

Jennifer Schmidt of Mercy Corps is a bit better on the air guitar than on the real thing.

Everyone could use an excuse to hit the stylish Portland hotel The Nines.

Here’s a good one: This year’s 40 Under 40 event takes place at the hotspot on Feb. 13. At the gathering, we’ll honor the next-generation business leaders who’ll shape our commercial world for the next few decades. As such, we’re also looking forward to meeting the many friends and family who take pride in the honorees.

Speaking of which, you can register and purchase tickets by clicking right here.

Be sure to swing by and grab one of our printed special sections after the event. Given that our theme is “Top 40” this year, our artwork (by crack PBJ designers Craig Spencer and Alyssa Walker) is, fittingly, their skills matching the tastes of this year’s class.

Jennifer Schmidt is the director of corporate partnerships for Mercy Corps. She helps the Portland nonprofit save and improve lives in the world’s toughest places. She works with companies that hope to make a big social impact and meet their own business objectives.

That’s a lot different than her early days, when her first job involved working at a snack bar at her local pool.

Today, the self-described “science fiction geek” likes to go to New York City and hit her local Karaoke outlet. She says that what she lacks in talent, she makes up for in flair.

Plus, she also wants everyone to know she really rocks it out on the air guitar.
