Sustainable Alpha features shared conversations with the best minds, portfolio managers and industry leaders working to maximize returns while prioritizing the environment, social and governance factors — what’s become short-handed in the industry as ESG. Sustainable Alpha will highlight portfolio approaches and investment trends against the backdrop of broader themes such as resource constraints, policy changes and demographic shifts — all while shedding light on how ESG can impact your investments.
Sustainable Alpha conversations are led by John Wrenn, Senior VP, Investments for UBS. The Wrenn Ferguson Group has a combined experience of 200 years managing over 1.6 billion in assets, offering customized wealth management strategies for individuals, endowments and foundations. John Wrenn: Unrest in Egypt has put concerns about oil supply from the Middle East on the front burner. The International Energy Agency estimates global energy demand will grow almost 60% by 2030 – will energy scarcity figure into your investment models?
Aaron Visse: Yes, it is something that investors need to pay attention to. There is enough fossil fuel to meet this rising demand for some time to come, but that is predicated on the assumption that unfettered and efficient access is granted to those existing resources, which could well prove to be a flawed assumption. Where the scarcity is most likely to reveal itself initially will be when the market perceives production growth becoming more difficult to sustain from secure and reliable energy resources.
