AltaRock Energy is declaring a success at its demonstration project in central Oregon, which is great news for the geothermal energy industry.
AltaRock's breakthrough — paired with, as Earth2Tech points out, its roster of high-profile investors including Khosla Ventures, Google and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers — is drawing attention to a quiet industry.
AltaRock will next test for permeability, flow rates and heat capturing properties in spring 2013. After that, the company plans to drill production wells that intersect the reservoirs. Flow testing will then determine if the wells can support a commercial plant.
