$25M biomass test plant planned for Hawaii (Honolulu)
The company planning to build a biomass plant in Kapolei said it chose the Islands for its multimillion-dollar test project because of the state’s commitment to “green” energy and accessibility to a variety of feedstocks that can be grown year-round.
UOP, a Des Plaines, Ill.-based subsidiary of
Honeywell International, will start construction next year at
Tesoro Hawaii’s refinery in Kapolei. The plant, which will convert biomass into transportation fuel, is expected to be online in 2014.
