Apple getting into energy management

Following in the heels of tech giants Google and Microsoft, Apple is getting into the energy-management space.

Apple filed a patent for a home-energy dashboard system and technology for turning every power outlet into a conduit for data.

Google made waves last year when it dropped the veil on its PowerMeter technology. Microsoft followed with its announcement of its Hohm home-energy management technology. The tech giants are jockeying for position in the growing energy management services sector, which Frost & Sullivan says will reach $40 billion by 2013.
