Forecast is cloudy for congressional action on climate change
In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama is expected to make a strong case for pursuing renewable energy as an antidote to global warming and a way to generate U.S. jobs. But climate change legislation before Congress is facing an uphill battle.
Today, the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press released a report showing that public opinion is cooling on the urgency of climate change: 28 percent of Americans surveyed felt climate change should be a priority for the government, compared to 30 percent last year.
Cap and trade legislation is unlikely to pass while a climate bill, though possibly slimmed down, is still in play.
