Solar highway project lands $5M (Sacramento)
Sacramento Municipal Utility District will receive $5 million in federal stimulus funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to help build a “solar highway” and develop three other innovative renewable energy projects.
The nation's first "solar highway" project, constructed in Oregon in 2008, cost $1.28 million. It consists of 594 panels, and provides power for lights that illuminate the highway interchange of I-205 and I-5, where the installation is located.
