Chipotle launches solar effort (Orlando)

Work has started locally on Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. Co.’s efforts to install solar panels on four Central Florida restaurants.

The Denver-based restaurant chain, which last October announced its partnership with Houston-based Standard Renewable Energy, began putting in solar panels in the Orlando-area stores this month and expects to be done in March, said spokesman Chris Arnold. The firm declined to share the cost of the projects.

The chain (NYSE: CMG), which has 16 Orlando-area eateries, expects the panels will produce 500 kilowatt hours of electricity, which would make Chipotle the largest direct producer of solar energy in the restaurant industry.
