Cielo Wind Power moves forward with $1.5B wind farm (Austin)
Cielo Wind Power LP moved forward Tuesday with a $1.5 billion West Texas wind farm project, according to a press release from the Austin company’s partners in the deal.
The three companies — Shenyang, China-based A-Power Energy Generation Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: APWR) subsidiary Shenyang Power Group, Cielo and Washington D.C.-based U.S. Renewable Energy Group — formed the project company United States Renewable Energy Group Wind Partners I LLC late last year, and the partnership is now seeking funding for the 36,000 acre plant.
A-Power will begin shipping wind turbines in March and deliver all units by the same month of 2011. Its subsidiary, Shenyang Power, is contributing $36.6 million to the project, which is expected to produce about 600 megawatts of energy.
