"Clean coal" takes root in China

Pop quiz: Which of the world’s two biggest emitters of pollution from burning coal, the U.S. or China, has a better way of making coal clean? The answer is China. Too bad other countries don’t believe it.

Discussions about global energy and climate change invariably include references to “coal” and “China.”

Houston-based Future Fuels LLC is involved with both, specializing in coal gasification technology for power generation. The company has about 25 employees in Houston, Pennsylvania, Long Beach, California, and Beijing and Xi’in, China.

Future Fuels recently signed an information-exchange agreement with Thermal Power Research Inc. in China, and announced a $1 billion, 270-megawatt clean-coal plant in Good Spring, Pennsylvania.
