Green technology patent push has some worried (Silicon Valley)

A federal plan to boost “green” technology innovation by slashing patent processing time has some Silicon Valley lawyers wondering: Will the program help or hurt their tech clients?

A number of valley lawyers who deal with patents say the two-month-old Green Technology Pilot Program has good intentions, but is relatively narrow in scope and could cause a patent approval backlog for inventors who don’t design green products. Others say the program would make eco-friendly technologies more quickly available for commercial use, create jobs and help the environment.
