PG&E: Electric rates could drop 2.5% (Silicon Valley)

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said Friday it is asking the California Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to approve proposals that would reduce average electric rates by 2.5 percent.

The cost-cutting program would go into effect June 1, San Francisco-based PG&E said.

In order to reduce rates, PG&E said, it proposes to accelerate refunds to customers for lower transmission and generation-related costs
